I have always known, appreciated and acknowledged what an incredibly generous and giving community Buncombe County is.  But it truly warms my heart when I see children helping other children in our community.   Below are some stories of how children in Buncombe County are making a difference.  Enjoy!

ab tech kidsThe AB Tech Child Care Center, Farside Group (kids ages 3-5 years old), recently worked with their parents to do a food, clothing and a toy drive, all benefiting the Children First/CIS Family Resource Center at Emma (FRCE).  The project, headed by Cathy Lyons-Spear parent of an AB Tech Child Care student and Children First/CIS board member, was to introduce "community giving" to the pre-school children and to tell them about the children in our community that need our help.  The children took a field trip to the FRCE to help deliver the food items.

Ella had a birthday partybirthday ella and instead of gifts for her, she asked her friends to bring school supplies to her party so they could be donated to the students at our Project MARCH Learning Center.  Pictured is Ella delivering the school supplies for our students.

phoebe food pantryPhoebe also had a birthday party and asked  her friends to bring food so they could donate it to the food pantry at the FRCE.  When Phoebe and her mom delivered the food, Phoebe helped Patricia Harrison, director of CIS, put the food on the shelves in the food pantry.

Remember, together we can make a difference and put children first in Buncombe County.

Help us give children a happy holiday
LogoChildren First/CIS has received applications for 330 children for this Holiday season.  Our focus is on something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.  Pictured is Jason Ingle who delivered presents from the staff and family of the Buyers Agent of Asheville who helped 15 children during last year's Holiday Assistance Program.  If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring a child(ren) for this year's holiday giving program, please contact Lisa Barlow at our Family Resource Center at Emma at 828-252-4810 or lisab@childrenfirstbc.org.
