Children First Wraps-Up 2007 Speaking of Children Lecture Series


Children First of Buncombe County recently held its third lecture of the 2007 Speaking of Children Lecture Series on Bullying, October 22nd and 23rd. Guest lecture Dr. Richard Spurling, assistant superintendent and career technical education director for Mitchell County Schools, provided an inspirational session on developing, establishing and implementing anti-bullying programs. Spurling stated that “bully behavior influences violent acts in school and as school leaders’ student safety must be the top priority.”

Children First of Buncombe County in partnership with Mission Hospitals sponsors the annual Speaking of Children Lecture Series. The lectures are designed to discuss health, education, social, and developmental issues which children and youth deal with everyday. Past topics include autism, ADHD, adolescent brain development, gender bas learning differences, and body image and eating disorders.

Children First is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of children, youth and their families through community collaboration, advocacy and programs.
