There Are Three Ways to Vote Early!
One Stop:
Beginning the third Thursday before an election a voter can vote in person
at an early voting location. Early voting locations may vary for each
election. Please call 250-4200 for details about the early voting location
nearest you.
Early Voting for the Asheville Primary begins Thursday, September 17 at 8
a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. The Early Voting site is the
Buncombe County Election Services Office located downtown at 189 College
Street. All registered voters who live within the municipal boundaries of
the City of Asheville are eligible to vote during this time. Residents who
are not registered to vote may still register and vote during the early
voting period.
Written Request:
Send a written request to: Rachel Brown, Board of Elections, PO Box 7468,
Asheville, NC 28802. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number,
date of birth and the address where the ballot should be mailed if different
from your residential address. The written request must be signed by the
voter in order to receive a ballot.
Requests may be submitted annually for all elections within the calendar
year. The desire for an annual request must be notated and on the written
request.
Absentee Request Form:
Do you need to help a near relative get a ballot who is away at college or
is housebound and is unable to travel? Request it now by sending an email
to:
absenteeballot.request@buncombecounty.org
Near Relative Request
You can request an absentee ballot if you are the voter's spouse, brother,
sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law,
father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, or
verifiable legal guardian.
Note: No one with Power of Attorney is allowed to request an absentee ballot
for a voter unless he or she is the voter's near relative or verifiable
legal guardian.
Absentee Deadlines for the October 6th Asheville Primary:
All requests for absentee ballots must be received by the Buncombe County
Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009.
Voted absentee ballots must be received by the Board of Elections office by
5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5th, 2009. A voted ballot must be returned by
mail, hand-delivered by the voter or hand-delivered by the voter's near
relative as defined above.
